Anxiety – Frequent Urination – Biological Causes

Most of the time, frequent urination and anxiety are caused by caused by the sympathetic nervous system.  You may know this by the name “fight or flight response.”

To put is simply, when we are experiencing anxiety, panic, or intense fear, we go into the fight or flight mode.  This is our body preparing us to either run away from or fight off any perceived danger.

We get a rush of adrenaline, tend to breathe faster, and feel the urge to use the restroom.  This urge to eliminate is driven by the body’s attempt to get rid of excess weight so that we can run faster to escape from possible threats.

This is purely biological and you have no conscious control over this.  The solution then, is to work on getting rid of your anxiety or panic attack problems.

Anxiety – Frequent Urination – Mind of Matter

Another cause for frequent urination is simply worrying about it.  I once had a friend that was afraid to use public restrooms.  We went on a road trip one time and sure enough he started complaining about his need to urinate.

What happened was that, with hundreds of miles of desolate freeway and dirty gas-station restrooms between home and our hotel, he was left fearing what would happen if he had to use the restroom.  The thinking overtook him and before long, he was so busy thinking about going to the restroom that the urge actually started to present itself.

This is simply a case of thinking about something so much that it actually starts to come true.  If this is more likely the cause of your frequent urination, then work on managing anxiety and learning how to stop obsessive thinking.

Anxiety – Frequent Urination – Bottom Line

Generally, this isn’t something to worry about.  By treating the overall anxiety frequent urination should eventually die down and you’ll find it less of a problem.  Learn to take things lightly and trust that you’ll be able to handle whatever life throws at you confidently.
