Stop Panic Attacks – Techniques to Get Back in Control

Stop Panic AttacksIf you suffer from panic attacks, you may be familiar with those suffocating feelings you may experience as it seems that your life keeps getting smaller and smaller and you feel trapped in a box.  Here, I’d like to share some techniques for panic attacks that you can use to help get your life back.

End Panic Attacks for Good

Panic Attacks – Techniques for Overcoming Fear

One of my favorite books is Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway.  This book taught me that there really is no way to overcome fear except by going through it and confronting it.  If you haven’t already, I highly recommend you get a copy of the book.

Anyway, to overcome fear and anxiety, start doing something small every day that scares you.  These don’t have to be heroic feats like saving people from a burning building, just something that makes you feel a little fear.  Maybe it’s asking a stranger for directions.  Maybe it’s telling your best friend about your panic attack problem.  Maybe it’s seeking out professional help.

An interesting thing happens when you start confronting fear.  It stops being scary.  You can eventually learn to change your thinking and you start to rename that feeling that you call “fear” into something called “excitement.”

Panic Attacks – Techniques for Dealing with Stress and Anxiety

A lot of times we start to get overwhelmed when there’s too much stress in our lives.  One easy way to reduce this is to simply decide that you don’t need to do somethings.

It can actually be very liberating to take your to-do list and simply decide that you don’t need to worry about half of the things on it.  Cross them off and just forget about them.  Do you really need to reply to every e-mail you get or take time out of your day to return a video you rented to avoid a $1 late fee?  Learn to let go of the small things.

Panic Attacks – Techniques for Beating Negative Thinking

A lot of anxiety problems come from negative thoughts that run rampant in your mind.  One way to banish these is make them so silly and over the top that you can help but laugh at them.

If you find yourself constantly mulling over a thought in your mind, trying giving the thought a very high-pitched voice as if someone is saying it after breathing in helium.  Or picture it like a comic book in your mind with a bunch of brightly colored panels and dramatic illustrations.  Or maybe play the thought in your mind like a movie, but play it backwards.

By simply jumbling up your thoughts in this way, you can start to break the chain of obsessive thoughts and stop fixating on things that you know are just going to make you feel bad.

Use these 3 panic attack techniques to help you get a better handle on your life so you can finally stop feeling like you’re trapped by your anxiety and panic attacks.
