  1. Breathing — Practicing controlled breathing every day is one of the most effective ways you can manage your panic attacks.  Controlled breathing will show you how to calm down when you feel a panic attack starting to well up.  You simply MUST know how to control your breathing if you want to stop your panic attacks.  With proper breathing you can calm yourself down in as little as five minutes.  When you’re having a panic attack, you lose control of your thoughts and spiral into negative thinking.  By taking slow, calming breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth you can begin to regain your focus.  If you want to know how to stop a panic attack, you must understand that it all starts with your breathing.
  2. Stretching — If you are prone to panic attacks, I hope that you have a regular exercise routine to relieve some stress.  Stretching exercises can help relax your body over a period of time.  This will have a benefit on your mental mindset as well.  If you are more loose and relaxed instead of hunched over and stiff, then you will be more receptive to ideas and new things.  Stretching can also dial down the intensity of a panic attack by 90%.  Stretching gives us more control over our bodies and helps you bring your heart rate under control much more quickly when you start to feel a panic attack come on.
  3. Gratitude — When you are in an “attitude of gratitude” and embrace life with a positive mental state of mind, you will find that panic attacks simply stop happening.  A good way to train yourself to do this is to spend a few minutes each morning just feeling thankful for various things in your life.  Be thankful for your ability to see, to hear.  Be thankful for your family.  Be thankful that you can read, that you have food to eat.  Whatever your life circumstances are, there is always something to be thankful for if you take the time to look.  This will train you to start thinking positively and focus on good things in your life.  When you have more control over your thoughts, you can stop a panic attack from even starting.

The above tips, when combined will give you a good foundation on how to stop a panic attack.  Yes, there are many other things you can do, but the above three points are free and you can start right now to regain control over your life.
