5 Tips to Stop Worrying Now
I know that one of the most challenging things that comes with anxiety is the endless stream of worries that seem to enter your mind. Oftentimes it can become overwhelming and you just want to find a way to stop worrying now so you can get on with your life.
Here are some tips that will help you end obsessive thoughts and stop worrying now:
First, take out a journal or a piece of paper and write down everything that you are worrying about. Just write down all of it. Give yourself 10 or 15 minutes to write non-stop and get every last worry out on paper. Write down all the big things you worry about (“I might go crazy,” “What if I have a panic attack while I’m driving,” or “What if I die”) but don’t forget the little ones too.
Second, sit back and think about each worry. What would you do if scenario came true? How could you handle it or recover from it? There are very few things in our lives that can happen that we cannot handle or bounce back from. Oftentimes, just having a Plan B helps to alleviate any worrisome thoughts you might have and help you stop worrying now.
Third, address the worrisome thoughts you can’t control. There are undoubtedly a few thoughts that are outside your control. First accept that there is nothing you can do about them. They are out of your hands, so worrying about them really serves no purpose. Instead, think of a more realistic outcome and remind yourself of this whenever you start to worry.
Fourth, try to relieve stress in your life. Worry tends to crop up when we are too stressed about things in our life whether it be work or personal problems. Take some time to step back from your problems and relax. This can really help you stop worrying now even if you only do this for 5 or 10 minutes each day. Surly you can spare 5 minutes a day.
Fifth, know when to seek help. If you feel that your worrying thoughts are posing a serious obstacle in your ability to deal with life, don’t feel like you need to handle this all on your own. Don’t be afraid to talk to a good friend for support or find a good psychologist or therapist to give you professional help.
